This Christmas we wanted to create something special for our friends, colleagues, and clients to help take their minds off the rush to Christmas.

Our brief was to create a Flash game that was engaging, fun, festive, and most importantly had the ‘just one more go’ factor. Introducing… Sprout Invaders!

Fans of retro gaming, we decided to use the classic Space Invaders concept, but these aren’t space ships you’ll be battling in our version. You’ll be blasting your way through an army of sprouts. Whether you love them or hate them sprouts are without a doubt one of the most dangerous things you’ll eat this Christmas. We’ve even thrown in a few festive sound effects for good measure.

The rules are simple, shoot the sprouts, shoot the turkey for bonus points, and don’t get shot yourself! Watch out for those Christmas socks too, they’re everywhere. Once you’ve had a go, drop in your high score and email the game to a friend, so they can test their skills against yours.

Sprout Invaders is your chance to get revenge on all those little green monsters your parents force fed you when you were young. We’d love to know what you think so drop us a comment, or even just let us know your highest score. Meet up with fellow Sprout Invaders fans and join our Facebook group.

Happy Christmas love from Jupiter Digital.

To kick things off with a creative focus for the New Year in 2008, Jupiter asked us to create a simple message on their home page for the week after the Christmas break.

Inspired by their logo, we used Flash to create a unique and dynamic backdrop for the New Year message. Using ActionScript together with programmed loops based on width, length and colour – random and unique shapes combined to spell out the hidden New Year message. Jackson Pollock eat your heart out.

In 2007 Jupiter asked us to push the boat out for their website Christmas promotion. So we knocked some heads (and brain cells) together and came up with a DIY Christmas tree. Located on their home page, users are given a quick demo showing how to use the toolbox and then it’s “Changing Rooms” time.

We used some serious Flash ActionScript to control everything from baubles and nutcrackers to multi-coloured tinsel and fairy lights. Once their masterpiece was finished users are encouraged to switch on the lights – eat your heart out Blackpool!

Once happy with their tree users could then email their friends a Christmas message and link to their festive creation. Interactive, fun and in the festive spirit – the average number of visits to Jupiter’s site doubled in week leading up to Christmas as a result of the piece.

For the festive season in 2006 Jupiter asked us to give their clients a helping hand with their origami Christmas card. Jupiter’s clients received a card sporting Father Christmas without his famous boots – shock horror. They were asked to “use the way of the dragon” and embrace their (as yet undiscovered) origami skills in order to create a new pair of boots for the big man.

We filmed a complete easy peasy origami sequence and combined it with simple animated illustrations showing how to make the correct folds. The mini site allowed Jupiter’s clients to stop and rewind the video and animations. It was all controlled using timecode chapters combined with some clever ActionScript and a heavily customised video playback component.

We created two versions – a bonkers speeded up version (just for fun), and a version at normal speed. Mr Miyagi would have been proud.

To celebrate Christmas 2005 Jupiter created a DIY Christmas card – allowing everybody at The Manor to get creative with spray paint and glitter (yikes!). We were asked to highlight this festive frenzy and show our clients what went into creating their unique and (at times) beautiful Christmas cards.

The mini Flash site makes use of a simple interface, utilising the loadMovie function in order to keep preloader times down to a minium. Simple and creative, with a strong sense of fun – just like the day itself.
