We’ve just added a shiny new WordPress blog to the Heart of Gold website. The brand’s been receiving some great press recently – and they’ve now got an easy-to-use tool to keep on top of it all.

I love the graphic and sound design on show here. MÜ is an interactive touchscreen installation designed for teaching children through fairy tales. The installation is specifically focused on improving social skills and imagination for 5-6 year olds.

It also helps the youngsters with basic skills like reading and writing. It’s playful, interactive and entertaining – everything good digital creative should be.

New York invasion by 8-bit creatures

We’ve just read, via Slash Film, that Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison maybe making the short into a feature film with Sony.

“THR reports that, as Happy Madison has a first-look deal with Sony, that is where this odyssey begins. There isn’t yet a writer set for the project, but the idea is to make “a Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world.”

Spatial operating interface brings Minority Report to life

Back in April last year I posted a video I’d seen exploring the potential of gestural interfaces. This video from Oblong takes things a step closer to a true spatial operating interface, as seen in the Spielberg film Minority Report.

Oblong’s gesture-based g-speak spatial operating interface platform has been in development at MIT’s Media Laboratory since the early 1990s. It’s been a top secret project for many years, and has only recently been leaked. Other systems, including Microsoft’s Project Natal for Xbox, are promising similar types of gesture interaction as soon as this year. With the recent release of Apple’s iPad and similar tablet devices on the way, is the end in sight for casual-use laptop and desktop computers within the home? I think so.

Decode: Digital Design Sensations

The Decode event at the V&A in London has been running since early December, and we’ve heard lot’s of good things about it. Next week Jam is on his way to London-town to take a peek at the exhibition. Decode covers old favourites such as Daniel Brown’s organic work, as well as emerging designers including Troika and Simon Heijdens.
