Future interfaces

It’s always interesting to see new ways in which technology is interacting with the user. I recently read an article on Smashing Magazine which showcases ten new pieces of technology all of which look very futuristic, in both the way they interact and in their overall appearance.

New concepts are being developed every day, all different examples of how we might interact with technology in the future. Some of this technology – although it looks futuristic – is already in use, whether it will become the next method of interaction on a larger scale, only time will tell.

Here are a couple of examples:

Aurora User Interface

Adaptive Path has created this new user interface developed in partnership with Mozilla Labs. The project encourages designers to contribute their own ideas for a futuristic web browser in order to develop the project further.

The main idea of the concept is to represent everything as objects in a three-dimensional user interface, bringing aspects of the physical world into the web browser such as grab, lift, pull, push and drop.

Futuristic Glass

Bringing online services into our daily life is something that designers and developers are trying to crack. Especially with the recent boom in wifi meaning we are now able to access the web from most places. This futuristic concept is a great way to show how it could work, and the creator has shown how it could provide the users with city guides, translate text or look up encyclopedia data. Fingers crossed for this one, it looks great.

FaceAPI

FaceAPI replicates your three dimensional view of an object and recreates it on screen. It works by tracking the movement of your head through a web camera and calculating the angle of view you would have, then creates this view of the object on the screen. This technology is already available and in use.
