I like to think of myself as a traditional music and film collector. Yes I’ve got access to download programs like Tesco Digital and iTunes but I still go out of my way to buy the actual CD, DVD, or even vinyl from the high street.

It came as no surprise to me when I read that Apple had reached a deal with the majority of the major Hollywood film studios to sell movie downloads through its iTunes store on the same day that the titles are released on DVD.

This deal will have a massive impact on the DVD industry, including video rental companies such as Blockbuster, because they will no longer have the window of exclusivity before movies are released online.
